Ruijin Hospital Shanghai Health Checkup

Shanghai Health Checkup Packages & Prices for Foreigners: Ruijin Hospital (2026)

As of 3 September 2026, a health checkup in Shanghai through SinoCareLink costs US$399 (Men's Essential), US$499 (Women's Essential), US$599 (Men's Premium) or US$699 (Women's Premium) at a tertiary hospital or licensed international medical centre, and a Personalized Screening built on your history is quoted per person[1]. Essential is usually completed in one morning; Premium and add-ons run longer, and sedated endoscopy is normally booked as a separate session[1][6]. Ruijin Hospital — the Shanghai Jiao Tong University teaching hospital in Huangpu district — is the Shanghai hospital our coordinators book most often for executive-level checkups; at Ruijin the confirmed total is quoted individually before you pay, so any difference from the standard panel reaches you in writing first[2]. Shanghai-specific add-ons are priced separately: whole-body PET-CT US$1,499, the MRI add-on US$300 per body part, sedated gastroscopy and colonoscopy from US$400, coronary CT angiography US$300, a bilingual companion US$50 when bundled[3][4][5][6][7]. Preliminary findings are discussed with the physician on the day; the full English report follows in two to three weeks[1][2]. This guide puts the prices first, then the hospitals, the add-ons, the checkup morning and how to book.

Price guide by SinoCareLink, which coordinates the Shanghai packages priced here. SinoCareLink is an independent concierge service: we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or an agent of Ruijin Hospital or any hospital named on this page. This is general information about package contents and prices, not medical advice — whether a checkup or any add-on is right for you is a decision for a doctor. Prices checked 3 September 2026 and may change.

Shanghai health checkup prices by tier

Table 1: SinoCareLink Shanghai checkup packages, checked 3 September 2026. USD, per person.
Package Price (USD) Built for What it covers
Men's Essential $399 Generally healthy men, routine baseline Baseline blood panel (liver and kidney function, lipids, glucose), abdominal ultrasound, physician review[1]
Women's Essential $499 Generally healthy women, routine baseline Essential panel plus women's screening items set by the hospital[1]
Men's Premium $599 Men 35+, smokers, family history, first deep screen Adds a low-dose chest CT, cardiac enzymes and an expanded tumour-marker panel[1]
Women's Premium $699 Women 35+, first deep screen Premium panel plus women's screening items set by the hospital[1]
Personalized Screening quoted per person Complex history, seniors, targeted concerns Any tier as the base plus what your history calls for — targeted CT or MRI, specific blood tests, sedated endoscopy — assembled from the add-on menu[1]

Essential and Premium are priced the same in each of our partner cities, so for those tiers the Shanghai decision is about hospitals and logistics rather than price; the Personalized Screening tier is quoted per person[1][2]. Two Shanghai-specific notes: at Ruijin the confirmed total is quoted individually before you pay, and Beijing's named-hospital alternative at Peking Union Medical College Hospital is $1,499 (women) or $1,699 (men) if a flagship hospital name matters more to you than the city[11]. The itemised list for each tier is set by the hospital and confirmed in your written quote; our Shanghai health checkup city page carries the live tier table and the hospital-by-hospital overview.

CT and PET-CT involve ionising radiation. Tumour markers are not diagnostic tests: raised results are common in people without cancer, and normal results do not exclude it. Which tests are appropriate is decided with the hospital physician.

Where your Shanghai checkup takes place: Ruijin Hospital and the alternatives

Ruijin Hospital (瑞金医院) is a Grade 3A general hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine at 197 Ruijin Er Road, Huangpu District, nationally known for endocrinology and haematology, with 3.0T MRI and 256-slice CT on site and sedated gastroscopy and colonoscopy available as add-ons. It runs an international medical centre with appointment-based scheduling, and South Shaanxi Road metro (Lines 1, 10 and 12) is a short walk[2][12]. Coordinators suggest it for executive-level checkups and complex histories; onward specialist appointments at the same hospital are subject to its own availability. For what the hospital is known for and how its international services work, see our Ruijin Hospital guide for international patients.

Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine does the Western baseline first, then a TCM physician reads pulse, tongue and questionnaire and classifies your constitution, with dietary and lifestyle guidance; a specialist consultation there is listed at $90[2][10]. Constitution assessment is a traditional Chinese medicine framework, not a diagnostic test, and does not replace the Western baseline results. Huashan (neurology and dermatology), Changhai (digestive endoscopy) and Zhongshan (cardiology-led panels) are the other hospitals our coordinators suggest when a specific concern is driving the checkup[2]. Tell us what is driving it and we recommend the hospital; an English-speaking companion can be added at any of them (US$50 per half day with a checkup package).

Add-on prices in Shanghai

Table 2: Add-ons and standalone screens bookable with a Shanghai checkup, checked 3 September 2026. USD.
Add-on Price (USD) Note
Whole-body PET-CT (Shanghai) $1,499 A nuclear-medicine scan for people with specific risk factors or a physician's recommendation, not a routine add-on; centre, preparation and total confirmed in writing[3]

GI and digestive deep screening $799 Sedated endoscopy with tumour markers[5]
Sedated gastroscopy + colonoscopy $400 Standard · $500 Premium · $699 capsule gastroscopy (stomach only) Sedated endoscopy carries procedural and sedation risks and needs a pre-procedure assessment by the hospital; eligibility is confirmed on the day, and you need recovery time afterwards[6]
Cardiovascular screening $499 package (ECG, echocardiogram and coronary CTA included) · booked on their own: coronary CTA $300 · echocardiogram $100 ECG, echocardiogram and coronary CTA; CCTA is a contrast scan with a kidney-function check first[7]
Lung and respiratory deep screening $399 Low-dose CT plus spirometry[8]
Women's gynaecology screening · Cervical HPV + TCT · Mammography $259 · $159 · $100 Women's screening items priced separately[9]

TCM specialist consultation, Yueyang Hospital $90 Renowned-doctor appointment; pairs with the Yueyang checkup[10]

CT and PET-CT involve ionising radiation. Tumour markers are not diagnostic tests: raised results are common in people without cancer, and normal results do not exclude it. Which tests are appropriate is decided with the hospital physician.

How Shanghai checkup prices compare with home

A Shanghai Premium checkup is $599 or $699 with a low-dose chest CT and an expanded tumour-marker panel included[1]. As a reference point rather than a like-for-like comparison: PartnerMD, a US executive-health provider, estimates a typical US executive physical at $2,000–6,000 (accessed 3 September 2026), and the four best-known US programs publish no price at all[13]. Test lists differ between programmes, so compare written quotes item by item. UK private health assessments are priced by provider and tier and are not compared here. What you can compare like for like is the add-on menu: a coronary CT angiography add-on is $300 in Shanghai[7], and our coronary CTA cost comparison sets that against US self-pay prices. For the destination question rather than the Shanghai question, see the cheapest countries for a full-body checkup guide.

What the price includes — and what it does not

Included: the hospital appointment, the full test list for your tier, physician review, English-language booking support before the visit, and the English report and physician summary that follow in two to three weeks[1][2]. Priced separately: an English-speaking companion at the hospital (US$50 per half day when booked with a checkup package) and the imaging and endoscopy add-ons listed above. Not included: flights, hotel, prescription medication, any treatment or specialist consultation arising from findings, and insurance claim filing — we provide itemised receipts and translated reports for you to submit.

Your checkup morning at Ruijin

  1. Before you fly: complete the health questionnaire (it collects health information — our privacy notice explains how it is stored and shared with the hospital); we confirm the hospital, tier and any add-ons in writing, send fasting instructions (no food or water from 22:00 the night before) and translate any prior records you want compared[2].
  2. 07:30: arrive at the hospital and register; if you have added an English-speaking companion, they meet you there and help with registration[2].
  3. Morning: blood draw and the fasting items such as abdominal ultrasound first, then the rest of the imaging and examinations in a pre-arranged sequence, with the physician consultation and a conversation about preliminary findings; eat once the hospital has completed the fasting items (your companion relays this if you have added one). Essential packages typically take about 3 hours; Premium and endoscopy add-ons run longer, and sedated endoscopy is usually scheduled as a separate session[1][2].
  4. After: results are compiled and translated; your English report and physician summary arrive by email in two to three weeks. If a finding needs follow-up, we arrange the specialist consultation and quote it before you commit[2].

Getting to Shanghai, entry rules and where to stay

Shanghai has two international airports, Pudong (PVG) and Hongqiao (SHA); Ruijin Hospital is in central Huangpu, a short taxi or metro ride from the Bund and Xintiandi hotel districts, so a checkup morning fits into a business trip or a city break. Entry rules depend on your passport and change from time to time: read our China entry and visa guide and confirm with the Chinese embassy or consulate in your country before booking. For a three-day itinerary that pairs the checkup with the city, see the Shanghai checkup itinerary; for the hour-by-hour experience inside the hospital, see what to expect at a Shanghai health checkup.

When Ruijin is the right choice — and when another hospital is

  • Choose Ruijin for an executive-level panel or a complex history; it is nationally known for endocrinology and haematology[2][12], which is why coordinators suggest it when those histories are driving the checkup. Our Shanghai executive checkup at Ruijin guide covers the deeper panel.
  • Choose Yueyang if you want the TCM constitution assessment alongside the Western baseline[2].
  • Choose Changhai for a screening endoscopy, Huashan for a neurological or skin concern, Zhongshan for a cardiology-led panel[2].
  • Consider Beijing if a flagship hospital name is the point: the Peking Union Medical College Hospital package is $1,499 (women) or $1,699 (men), and its own page says the test panel is comparable to our standard checkups from $399–$699[11].

How to book a Shanghai checkup

Choose Shanghai, your package and your date on the full body health checkup page, or send the 3-minute intake with your preferred dates and concerns. We reply within 24 hours and confirm hospital availability within two to five working days, then send your written plan — hospital, tier, add-ons and total — and fasting instructions before the day; you pay only after the exact test list and total are confirmed in writing[2][12].
