Business Traveler's Health Checkup: Shenzhen Same-Day Screening

If you travel to Shenzhen for business — supplier visits, factory inspections, partner meetings, Hong Kong layovers — you have one of the most underused half-day options in international travel. A Premium health checkup at a tertiary hospital in Shenzhen costs USD 599 (men; USD 699 for women), and the full English report follows in two to three weeks. Many US executive health programmes (Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, NYU) do not publish prices; they quote on enquiry.

This is for the business traveler whose Shenzhen trip has at least one free weekday morning — a gap between meetings, or the day before you fly out. Weekend availability depends on the hospital; tell us your dates and we will confirm what can be booked. About four to five hours at the hospital, one taxi ride, and your English report two to three weeks later.

SinoCareLink is a medical concierge and consulting service. We coordinate appointments at partner hospitals in Shenzhen — the clinical care is delivered by the hospitals and their licensed physicians.

Why Shenzhen specifically

Shenzhen has three properties that make it the easiest mainland Chinese city for a business-traveler checkup:

1. Easy entry via Hong Kong. Many international business travelers already transit HKG. Border crossing to Shenzhen (Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau, Futian, West Kowloon high-speed rail) is 30-45 minutes. Citizens of some countries can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family visits, exchanges or transit. Medical treatment is not on that list, so check the right entry route for your passport with the Chinese embassy or consulate before you book. Check your nationality in our China visa guide.

2. International departments. Several large Shenzhen hospitals run international departments used to foreign patients. English varies by department, and a bilingual companion can be added.

3. Workflow optimised for one-morning visits. Arrive around 07:30 and a Premium checkup is usually finished by late morning or early afternoon (about 4 to 5 hours on site); the full English report follows in two to three weeks.

What makes a screening "executive," and whether you need one

"Executive health check" is a marketing category before it is a clinical one, and the honest starting point is that a lot of what gets sold under that name is the standard panel with a nicer waiting room.

What genuinely distinguishes the tier worth paying for:

  • Breadth of imaging. A standard screening typically includes ultrasound and a chest study. An executive tier usually adds cross-sectional imaging — CT, sometimes MRI — and that is where most of the incremental cost and most of the incremental yield sits.
  • Cardiovascular depth. Beyond a resting ECG: exercise testing, echocardiography, and in some tiers coronary calcium scoring. For a demographic whose dominant modifiable risk is cardiovascular, this is the part that earns its place.
  • Cancer-relevant screening appropriate to your age and history — rather than a wide tumour-marker panel, which is easy to sell and hard to interpret.
  • Consultation time. A physician who reviews everything together and talks it through, instead of a stack of results handed over at a desk.

What does not make a screening better: the number of individual tests. A panel with 100 line items is not twice as useful as one with 50. Beyond a point, additional untargeted tests mostly generate incidental findings that need chasing — which is a real cost, not a feature.

The honest version: if you are under 40, healthy, with no symptoms and no family history, the standard tier is very likely enough. We will tell you that rather than upsell you, and it is one of the more common conversations we have.

The realistic same-day timeline

07:00 — Leave your Shenzhen hotel (Futian, Nanshan, Luohu, OCT) or HK hotel (if cross-border)

07:30 — Arrive at the hospital. If you have added a bilingual companion, they meet you at the entrance.

07:45-08:30 — Check-in, intake, blood draw, urine sample, intake interview

08:30-11:30 — Imaging and examination stations in your package (Premium includes a low-dose chest CT)

11:30-12:00 — Physician consultation

12:00 — Leave hospital. Back at your Shenzhen hotel in the early afternoon, or at the HK border by about 13:00.

Two to three weeks later — Full English report by email

The afternoon is yours — for client meetings, factory visits, or recovery.

What the USD 599 covers

The Men's Premium package is USD 599 (Women's Premium USD 699). It includes the Essential tests — liver and kidney function, blood lipids, blood sugar and a full abdominal ultrasound — plus a low-dose spiral CT, an advanced cardiac panel and an expanded tumour marker panel. We email the itemised list for your package when you book.

Time at the hospital: about 4 to 5 hours.

Cost math for business travelers

You're already paying for the trip. The medical addition is purely incremental:

  • Premium checkup in Shenzhen: USD 599 (men) / USD 699 (women)
  • Optional bilingual companion: USD 50 per half day when added to a checkup package
  • Local taxi or cross-border transport: USD 20-50
  • Total addition to your business trip: roughly USD 620–800, depending on the package and whether you add a companion

Compared with an executive physical at home:

  • US executive health (Mayo, Cleveland, NYU): no published price — quoted on enquiry; third-party guides estimate a typical US executive physical at $2,000–6,000, with luxury programs above $10,000 (PartnerMD, accessed 3 September 2026), see our cost comparison

For an executive doing an annual physical, the Shenzhen route folds into a trip you were taking anyway.

Corporate and group bookings

For companies sending several people — a delegation, a regional leadership team, an executive population on a rotation — a few things change:

  • Scheduling in blocks. Multiple people on the same morning is straightforward if arranged in advance, and considerably less disruptive than individual bookings.
  • Consistency of package. Everyone on the same tier makes results comparable over time, which matters if this becomes an annual exercise.
  • Confidentiality. Get this right before booking, not after. Individual medical results belong to the individual. If your organisation is arranging and paying, be explicit with everyone involved about what the company does and does not receive — in most jurisdictions the answer is that it receives confirmation of attendance and an invoice, and nothing clinical.
  • Invoicing. A single corporate invoice rather than individual payments, arranged in advance.

Tell us the headcount and the dates when you enquire and we will come back with what is schedulable.

Cross-border from Hong Kong: even simpler

If you're a HK-based business traveler or transiting HKG:

  • Morning: leave HK hotel at 06:30
  • 07:00-07:30: cross border at Futian / Lok Ma Chau Spur / West Kowloon
  • 08:00: arrive at the hospital
  • 08:00-12:30: full workup (about 4 to 5 hours for Premium)
  • 13:00: back at the HK border, back in HK Central by about 14:00

The whole thing fits in a half-day, leaving Hong Kong early and returning in the early afternoon.

Which Shenzhen hospital

We book Shenzhen checkups at a tertiary hospital in our partner network and confirm the specific hospital with you before your appointment; the package price is the same whichever partner hospital we confirm. If you would prefer a particular hospital — for example HKU Shenzhen Hospital or Peking University Shenzhen Hospital — tell us when you enquire and we will tell you whether it can be arranged, and at what price.

Booking speed

Tell us your dates when you enquire. There's no extra charge for a short-notice request, and a specific date can't be guaranteed.

When your report actually arrives

The examination is a half-day. The written report is 2–3 weeks.

That gap is the single most misunderstood thing about screening abroad, so plainly: you will be home before your report is. Some individual results come back quickly. Imaging has to be read by a radiologist. Pathology, where it applies, takes longer again. Compiling that — and reconstructing it in clinically usable English rather than a machine rendering — is a 2–3 week process.

Anything urgent is communicated to you immediately, not held for the report. We would treat an offer of a complete same-day report with caution from any provider.

What to ask before you book: how the English version is produced. A faithful reconstruction preserves every value, unit and finding in the original structure. A machine translation does not, and your doctor at home will be able to act on one and not the other.

What to bring

  • Passport with a valid Chinese visa (e.g. business M-category), or visa-free entry / transit stamp
  • Visa or Mastercard credit card (AmEx variable)
  • Current medication list with English generic names
  • Previous medical records if you have specific concerns (optional but helpful)
  • Onward flight booking (required only if you enter on 240-hour visa-free transit)

We handle everything else: the appointment slot, an optional bilingual companion at the hospital, and delivery of your English report.

Common business traveler questions

Q: Can I do this on a same-day HKG-Shenzhen border crossing?
A: Yes, very practical. Cross border 07:00-07:30, checkup 08:00 to about 12:30, back at the HK border by about 13:00. Most efficient for HK-based or HK-transit business travelers.

Q: Will the report be acceptable to my home physician?
A: Your doctor decides how to use outside results. You receive an English report plus the original Chinese report; with your permission, we can email the PDF directly to your home physician.

Q: My business meeting just got moved. Can I reschedule?
A: Tell us as soon as you can. How date changes work, including notice periods, fees and what happens to your payment if you change at short notice, is set out in our cancellation and refund policy.

Q: I don't have a Chinese visa. Can I still do this?
A: Possibly — it depends on your passport. Citizens of some countries can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family visits, exchanges or transit. Medical treatment is not on that list, so check the right entry route for your passport with the Chinese embassy or consulate before you book. US passport holders are not on that list: the 240-hour transit exemption needs a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region (a round trip back to Hong Kong does not qualify), a valid passport and entry through a designated port. See our China visa guide for your nationality and the current list of ports.

Q: What if something abnormal shows up?
A: Your report flags any abnormal findings, with follow-up recommendations. Anything urgent is communicated to you straight away rather than held for the report, and if follow-up is needed we can coordinate appointments at the same hospital. Otherwise, the full English report follows in 2–3 weeks and you follow up with your own physician.

Q: My company pays for executive physicals. Can I get reimbursed?
A: Most US/UK/EU corporate health plans don't reimburse foreign elective care directly. Some HR programs reimburse if pre-approved. Check with HR. An itemised English receipt can be provided for the paperwork; we don't promise reimbursement.

Q: What is the difference between a standard and an executive screening?
A: Mainly imaging breadth and cardiovascular depth, plus proper consultation time. What does not make a screening better is simply having more line items — beyond a point, untargeted tests mostly generate incidental findings that need chasing.

Q: Do I actually need the executive tier?
A: If you are under 40, asymptomatic, with no significant family history, the standard tier is very likely sufficient. We will say so rather than upsell.

Q: Can we book a group from the same company?
A: Yes — multiple people on the same morning is straightforward with advance notice. Agree the confidentiality arrangement first: individual results belong to the individual, and the company normally receives attendance confirmation and an invoice, nothing clinical.

Q: How quickly can I be seen?
A: Tell us your dates when you enquire. There's no extra charge for a short-notice request, and a specific date can't be guaranteed.

Q: When exactly do I get my results?
A: The written report takes 2–3 weeks, so as a short-stay visitor you will receive it after you return home. Anything urgent is communicated immediately rather than held for the report.

An illustrative example (hypothetical, not a real client)

  • Say you are a 51-year-old executive who visits Shenzhen every quarter and would otherwise book an annual physical at a UK private clinic.
  • You add a Premium checkup on a free weekday morning: about 07:30 to 12:00 on site.
  • Cost: USD 599 (men) or USD 699 (women), plus USD 50 if you add a bilingual companion for the half day, plus a taxi.
  • The full English report arrives two to three weeks later, for you to share with your GP.

Screening during APEC Shenzhen 2026

The 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting runs 18–19 November 2026 in Shenzhen. The Leaders' Meeting is two days, but the APEC CEO Summit and the joint ministerial meeting around it mean most business attendees are in the city for the better part of a week.

That is the profile this page was written for, at unusual scale.

  • A half-day screening fits comfortably in a week-long programme — many delegates have at least one soft half-day.
  • Book before you fly. Appointment dates depend on availability, and a summit week is not when to leave it late.
  • Tell us what might move. Delegation schedules shift; we would rather build around that than rebook twice.
  • The report still takes 2–3 weeks. Plan on receiving it at home.
  • Expect heavier traffic in parts of the city — we factor transport into the timing.
