How to Choose a Trusted Agency for a Medical Trip to China
Share
Before paying a medical travel intermediary in China, ask it to name the hospital, check availability with that hospital before payment, and state its price and exclusions in writing. It is also clear about its role: an intermediary coordinates appointments and language support, while diagnosis and treatment decisions stay with the hospital's doctors.
What does a medical travel intermediary do in China?
Navigating an unfamiliar hospital may involve registration counters, check-ins and paperwork in Chinese. An intermediary connects the steps — choosing where to go, booking the appointment, and getting reports into a form your own doctor can read at home. Check the package page to see whether on-site language support is included or needs to be booked separately.
What should you ask an agency before you pay?
These questions separate a clear offer from a vague one. The last column shows how SinoCareLink answers each.
| Question to ask | What a clear answer looks like | How SinoCareLink answers it |
|---|---|---|
| Which hospital will I go to? | A named hospital, agreed before booking | We confirm the hospital for your package with you before booking. For example, Qianhai Taikang is our tertiary partner hospital in Shenzhen for health check-ups. |
| Is there space before I pay? | Availability checked with the hospital first | We'll check availability with the hospital before you pay. |
| When is the booking done? | A defined end point | When we send you the hospital's confirmation; later updates are free. |
| What does the price leave out? | Exclusions listed in writing | Booking: anything beyond registration and/or the specialist consultation is charged by the hospital. Companion: Each package lists what it includes; anything not listed is not included. |
| What support is included, and what is separate? | A named role, with its limits | Check-up packages include English-language booking support from our team before and after your visit; an English-speaking companion at the hospital is a separate add-on unless the package page lists it as included. |
| What happens after I fly home? | A stated follow-up path | Your own doctor follows up; report translation or a remote consultation is available on request. |
Ask for a written copy of the offer and keep it with your booking records. Read its refund policy before paying, and be cautious about any offer that promises a medical result.
Booking support or a medical companion: what is included?
Check-up packages include English-language booking support from our team before and after your visit; an English-speaking companion at the hospital is a separate add-on unless the package page lists it as included. A companion helps with the counters, check-ins and paperwork at your appointment.
How much does an English-speaking medical companion cost?
SinoCareLink's English-speaking Medical Companion service costs US$100 for a Half Day (4 hours), covering a single appointment at one hospital. Each package lists what it includes; anything not listed is not included. A Full Day (8 hours) option is also listed on the product page.
| Language | Booking options |
|---|---|
| English | Half Day (4 hours), Full Day (8 hours), bundle |
| Japanese | Half day and bundle; a full-day booking is quoted on request |
| Russian | Half day, full day and bundle |
You can book more than one companion and mix languages — for example, one English-speaking and one Japanese-speaking companion for a patient and a family member at the same appointment.
| Part of the trip | What the companion booking covers |
|---|---|
| Before the visit | Appointment confirmation, a pre-visit checklist by WhatsApp, WeChat or email, and clinician coordination |
| After the visit | A plain-English summary of the doctor's findings, prescription-filling guidance, receipts organized for insurance, and WhatsApp or WeChat follow-up within 24 hours |
| Package scope | Each package lists what it includes; anything not listed is not included. |
Those organized receipts are useful if you plan to claim on insurance; confirm what your policy covers before you travel, and see our guide to checking travel insurance before a medical trip.
Which Chinese cities have English-speaking medical companions?
Companions work in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Xi'an. For what a hospital visit involves in two of those cities, see hospitals and costs in Beijing for international patients and medical care in Chongqing for foreign patients.
How do hospital registration fees and deposits work?
With our Medical Appointment Booking Service (Per Appointment), the steps are:
- We check availability with the hospital before you pay.
- If the hospital requires an advance registration fee or specialist appointment deposit, it is collected before the appointment can be confirmed.
- If the actual registration fee is higher than the deposit collected, you pay the difference before the appointment is confirmed.
- We send you the hospital's confirmation of your appointment, which completes the booking service.
Any updates we send after that confirmation are free. The registration fee covers only registration and/or the specialist consultation. Any additional examinations, tests, treatments, medications or procedures the hospital recommends are not included and are charged separately by the hospital.
Do you need a second medical opinion rather than an appointment?
If your question is about a diagnosis rather than a booking — test results that conflict, or a condition that is still undiagnosed — the Second Medical Opinion service may fit better than an appointment. Every case includes medical records organization, where we collect and structure your scattered files, and most opinions are delivered within 5–10 business days, depending on how complex the case is.
| Case | Typical work |
|---|---|
| Simpler case | Records preparation under 1 hour and one written reply |
| Complex case: diagnostic direction is clear but contested, and multiple test results need analysis | Records preparation of 2–4 hours, a full medical history timeline and possibly multiple expert reads |
| Largest cases | Records preparation of 5+ hours, screening large volumes of imaging and reports, and multidisciplinary analysis |
Do you need a visa for a medical trip to China?
Citizens of some countries can enter China visa-free for short stays under China's mutual or unilateral visa-exemption arrangements. Eligibility depends on your nationality and the purpose of your trip, and medical treatment is not listed among the standard permitted purposes, so check the current rules and confirm with the Chinese embassy or consulate before you book. Our page on visa-free entry and transit rules for China keeps the details in one place. Policies change.
If your plan involves a hospital stay, you will likely need a visa; the Chinese embassy or consulate decides which visa type applies. We can help you prepare the hospital documents, but we cannot confirm your visa eligibility.
The 240-hour visa-free transit is open to citizens of 57 eligible countries (as of 20 August 2026) who are passing through China to a third country or region with a confirmed onward ticket. You must enter through one of 65 designated ports and stay within the permitted areas for no more than 240 hours. The officially listed activities are tourism, business, visits and family visits, and medical treatment is not among them, so don't plan a medical trip around this policy without confirming with the embassy or consulate. The official notice is on the National Immigration Administration — 240-hour visa-free transit page.
When is this kind of service the wrong fit?
- You need a written check-up report straight away. The doctor can talk you through initial findings on the day; the full English report arrives in 2–3 weeks.
- You want one price that covers every test. A hospital registration fee covers only registration and/or the specialist consultation; anything else the hospital recommends is charged separately by the hospital.
- You want a promise about the medical outcome. We can describe the process, timing and next steps; results are a matter for you and your doctors.
What happens after you return home?
After you return home, your own doctor follows up. We can translate your reports or arrange a remote consultation on request; how medical report translation works in China explains what the translation step involves.
