Others
United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia (partial), Monaco, Andorra, Liechtenstein.
NOT currently eligible for the 30-day scheme: United States, United Kingdom, India. US and UK citizens use the 240-hour transit scheme.
240-Hour Visa-Free Transit (The US/UK Solution)
In December 2024, China upgraded the 144-hour transit policy to 240 hours (10 days) for travelers from 54 countries including:
- United States, United Kingdom, India, South Africa
- All 30-day visa-free countries (as a fallback)
- Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, North Macedonia
- Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela
- All 27 EU countries
Under this scheme, you enter via approved transit ports, spend up to 10 days in specific regions of China, and depart to a third country.
Key Requirements
- Passport valid for 3+ months
- Confirmed onward ticket to a third country within 240 hours
- Entry through one of 60+ designated ports
- Stay within the approved region
Hainan Island 30-Day Visa-Free
For Hainan only, citizens of 59 countries can visit for 30 days without visa. Entry through Hainan airports (Haikou, Sanya) only. Cannot leave Hainan into mainland China without additional documentation.
Special Entry Points
Macau and Hong Kong
Separate visa regimes. Most citizens need no visa for Hong Kong/Macau. Can be used as transit points into mainland China.
