Men's Health Checkup Packages in China: What's in Each Tier and Who It Suits
Share
There are two standard men's tiers and a personalised tier above them. The difference between them is not "more tests" in any meaningful sense — it is which imaging and which cancer markers are included. This page sets out what each covers and who it is actually for.
The tiers at a glance
| Tier | Price | Shape | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $399 | Core bloods, metabolic and organ function, basic imaging, physician review | Under 40, no symptoms, no significant family history — a baseline you can repeat annually |
| Comprehensive | $599 | Everything in Essential plus tumour markers, expanded imaging and cardiac assessment | 40 and over, or anyone with family history of cancer or cardiovascular disease |
| Personalised | from $799 | Built around your history and what that specific hospital can schedule in one visit | A known condition, a previous abnormal result, or a specific question you want answered |
Prices are identical across the eight cities we cover; the personalised tier varies by city because it depends on what can be scheduled in a single visit. Details are on the men's health screening page.
What Essential covers
- Full blood count, liver and kidney function, fasting glucose and HbA1c, lipid panel, uric acid
- Thyroid function
- Abdominal ultrasound — liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys
- Thyroid ultrasound
- ECG, blood pressure, body composition
- Physical examination and physician consultation
This is a genuine baseline rather than a stripped-down version. For a man in his thirties with no symptoms, it is what most guidelines would actually support.
What Comprehensive adds
- Tumour markers — a panel rather than a single test, read together with imaging rather than alone
- Expanded imaging, typically including low-dose chest CT where smoking history warrants it
- Cardiac assessment beyond a resting ECG
- Carotid ultrasound — an inexpensive and underrated stroke-risk marker
The reason this tier is worth it from around 40 is not that more is better. It is that the conditions it looks for become common enough at that age for screening to change what you do next.
On prostate screening — read this before you ask for it
PSA is not a default inclusion, and that is deliberate. The US Preventive Services Task Force treats PSA testing as a shared decision between patient and clinician for men aged 55 to 69, and does not recommend routine screening from 70. It has a real false-positive rate and leads to biopsies that turn out to have been unnecessary. If you have a family history of prostate cancer or symptoms, raise it with the physician on the day and decide together — that is the pathway guidelines actually support.
What to add, and when it is worth it
| Add-on | Price | Worth it when |
|---|---|---|
| MRI, per body region | $200 | A specific complaint — persistent back or neck pain, a symptom a CT did not explain |
| Whole-body MRI package, Shenzhen | from $599 | You want preventive cross-sectional imaging rather than a targeted answer |
| Coronary CT angiography | $200 | Family history of early heart disease, hypertension, diabetes or abnormal lipids |
| CT scan | $100 | Chest imaging with a smoking history, or a targeted question |
| Whole-body PET-CT | $1,200 | A cancer-specific concern with a clinical basis — not a routine annual |
Add-ons are booked to run in the same visit, so they extend the morning rather than adding a trip.
How the day and the report work
- Arrive fasting, typically around 07:30. Most men are finished before lunch — plan roughly four hours on the hospital floor.
- Bring your passport. It is the registration ID.
- Findings visible on the day — ultrasound, ECG, physical examination — are discussed with the physician before you leave.
- The complete English-translated report takes one to three weeks. We do not promise same-day reports; the report is compiled, translated and physician-reviewed before it reaches you.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the $399 and $599 men's packages?
The $599 tier adds tumour markers, expanded imaging including low-dose chest CT where smoking history warrants it, cardiac assessment beyond a resting ECG, and carotid ultrasound. The core bloods, organ function and abdominal imaging are the same in both.
Which package should I choose?
Under 40 with no symptoms and no significant family history, the $399 Essential tier is a reasonable annual baseline. From 40, or with a family history of cancer or cardiovascular disease, the $599 Comprehensive tier is the one that changes what you do next.
Is PSA testing included?
Not by default. Guidelines treat PSA as a shared decision for men aged 55 to 69 and do not recommend routine screening from 70, because of false positives and unnecessary biopsies. Raise your family history with the physician on the day and decide together.
How long does the checkup take?
About four hours on the hospital floor, arriving fasting in the early morning. Most men finish before lunch. Imaging add-ons extend the same morning rather than requiring a second visit.
When do I get the report?
Anything visible on the day is discussed before you leave. The complete English-translated report takes one to three weeks, because it is compiled, translated and physician-reviewed.
Do prices change by city?
No for the Essential and Comprehensive tiers — they are the same across all eight cities we cover. The personalised tier is priced by city because it depends on what that hospital can schedule in a single visit.
