Women's health screening in China

From $159 to $259: Which Women's Health Checkup Package Is Right for You?

You know you need a women’s health checkup. You’ve decided to get it done in China — the price makes sense, the timeline fits, and the quality is solid. But now you’re looking at two packages: $159 or $259? What’s the difference? Is the extra $100 worth it?

This article gives you a clear, honest answer — not a sales pitch, but a clinical comparison for your specific situation.

The Two Packages at a Glance

The $159 package focuses on cervical cancer screening — two tests providing the international gold-standard assessment for cervical health.

The $259 package adds three additional examinations that screen for breast abnormalities, pelvic structural conditions, and vaginal infections — creating a comprehensive women’s health snapshot.

What the $159 Package Covers

HPV Genotyping — 23 Subtypes

This test identifies which specific HPV subtype(s) are present. The distinction matters: HPV-16 and HPV-18 are responsible for ~70% of all cervical cancers. Intermediate-risk types carry lower but meaningful risk. Low-risk types primarily cause genital warts, not cancer.

Cervical TCT (ThinPrep Cytology)

The modern liquid-based cytology test examines cervical cells for precancerous changes. Detection sensitivity for high-grade lesions exceeds 90% — significantly better than the 50–60% of conventional Pap smears.

Together: The Co-Testing Gold Standard

International guidelines recommend co-testing (HPV + cytology) as the most effective cervical cancer screening strategy. At $159, our package delivers this gold standard at a price less than what most American women pay for just one of the two tests.

What the $259 Package Adds

1. Breast Ultrasound (Color Doppler)

  • What it detects: Simple cysts, fibroadenomas, suspicious masses (irregular shape, poorly defined margins), and ductal changes.

Why it matters: Mammography is significantly less effective in women under 40 due to denser breast tissue. Breast ultrasound is the recommended primary screening modality for this age group. For women over 40, it supplements mammography by detecting lesions missed in dense breast tissue.

US cost: $150–$500 separately. Included at no additional cost beyond the $100 upgrade.

2. Uterine & Adnexal (Ovary) Ultrasound

The uterus:

  • Uterine fibroids — estimated 70–80% of women develop them by age 50; often asymptomatic but can cause heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure
  • Endometrial thickness — thickened endometrium can indicate hyperplasia or polyps, concerning in post-menopausal women
  • Endometrial polyps — benign growths that can cause irregular bleeding

The ovaries:

  • Ovarian cysts — most functional and resolve spontaneously, but persistent cysts need monitoring
  • Ovarian masses — require characterization. Ovarian cancer is notoriously difficult to detect early; ultrasound is the most accessible screening tool
  • Polycystic ovary appearance — suggestive of PCOS, linked to metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk

In the US/UK, pelvic ultrasound is typically ordered only after symptoms appear — not as preventive screening. Our package includes it as a preventive tool, finding structural abnormalities before they become symptomatic.

US cost: $200–$800 separately. Included in the $259 package.

3. Vaginal Discharge Analysis (Wet Mount + Culture)

  • Bacterial vaginosis — most common vaginal infection; often asymptomatic; associated with upper genital tract infection risk
  • Candida (yeast) infection — recurrent infections may indicate underlying immune or metabolic issues
  • Trichomonas vaginalis — often asymptomatic STI associated with cervical inflammation and pregnancy complications
  • Mixed flora patterns — indicate disrupted protective flora predisposing to future infections

US cost: $80–$250 separately. Included in the $259 package.

The $100 Upgrade: Is It Worth It?

For most women over 30, the $259 package is the better choice. The three additional tests would cost approximately $430–$1,550 if purchased separately in the US. You’re getting all three for an incremental $100 — a substantial value improvement.

Who Should Choose the $159 Package

  • You’re under 30 with no breast or pelvic symptoms
  • You’ve had a recent breast/pelvic ultrasound elsewhere and just need updated cervical data
  • Your primary concern is HPV status — previous positive result needing follow-up, or first-time HPV testing
  • Budget is the primary constraint — $159 is still an excellent, clinically complete cervical screening package

Who Should Choose the $259 Package

  • You’re over 30 — breast and pelvic conditions become increasingly prevalent with age
  • Family history of breast cancer or ovarian cancer
  • You’ve never had a comprehensive gynecological assessment
  • Any breast symptoms — lump, tenderness, skin changes, nipple discharge
  • Pelvic symptoms — menstrual irregularities, pain, pressure, discharge changes
  • Planning pregnancy or actively trying to conceive
  • Post-menopausal — cervical screening alone misses common post-menopausal concerns

Your Exam Experience: Comfort and Dignity First

Female Physicians — Always

Every gynecological examination is performed by a female gynecologist — our default, not a request you need to make. We understand that for many women, particularly those from conservative religious or cultural backgrounds, a male physician performing an intimate exam is unacceptable. Research consistently shows higher comfort, better communication, and more thorough outcomes with female gynecologists.

Language Support Beyond English

Every patient is accompanied by a bilingual health coordinator throughout the appointment. Our coordinators speak English and, depending on availability, additional languages including French, Arabic, Malay, and others. If you speak a language other than English, mention it during booking — we’ll match you with a coordinator who communicates with you directly.

Privacy and Respect

Examination rooms are private, modern, and equipped for comfort. You’re never left waiting exposed. The gynecological exam is performed efficiently — 5–10 minutes for cervical collection, 15–20 minutes for the complete $259 package including ultrasound. No conversation about findings begins until you’re dressed and comfortable.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve had the HPV vaccine. Do I still need screening?

Yes. The vaccine protects against the most common high-risk types but doesn’t cover all oncogenic HPV subtypes. Screening remains essential per every major international guideline, regardless of vaccination status.

Can I combine a women’s health package with other screening packages?

Absolutely. Many women add the $159 or $259 gynecological package to a gastrointestinal ($799) or cardiovascular ($399) package. The gynecological portion takes approximately 30–45 minutes.

What if I’m menstruating on my appointment day?

Cervical screening is best performed outside active menstruation. We can reschedule the gynecological portion within a few days at no charge — or complete other tests on schedule and return later.

Does the pelvic ultrasound hurt?

Transabdominal pelvic ultrasound is completely painless. Transvaginal imaging involves a slim probe — most women describe mild pressure, not pain. You can request transabdominal-only if preferred.

I’m post-menopausal. Is anything different?

The same HPV/TCT methodology applies. Pelvic ultrasound is especially valuable for detecting post-menopausal pathology (endometrial thickness, ovarian assessment). Discharge analysis may identify atrophic vaginitis — a common treatable condition.
