China Visa Free Entry 2026 Country List

China's visa free china entry policy has expanded dramatically between 2024 and 2026 — now covering ordinary passport holders from 50 countries under the 30-day visa-free scheme (list as of 17 February 2026) and 57 countries under 240-hour visa-free transit (list dated 20 August 2026), plus countries with mutual visa-exemption agreements. For international travelers considering healthcare in China, dental work, or tourism, this transformation makes short trips simpler than ever. This guide gives the official country lists for the 30-day and 240-hour schemes and explains how long you can stay and what each scheme requires.

The Four Visa-Free Schemes

China operates four distinct free visa china policies:

  1. 30-day visa-free entry: Ordinary passport holders from 50 countries can enter for up to 30 days
  2. Mutual visa-exemption agreements: Bilateral agreements with countries such as Singapore, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar also allow visa-free stays of up to 30 days per visit
  3. 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit: For ordinary passport holders from 57 countries travelling on to a third country or region; it replaced the former 72-hour and 144-hour schemes in December 2024
  4. Hainan Island visa-free (30 days): A Hainan-only policy with its own country list

30-Day Visa-Free Entry (2026)

List published by China's National Immigration Administration, as of 17 February 2026. It covers ordinary passports, for stays of up to 30 days.

Europe (35)

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

Asia (7)

Bahrain, Brunei, Japan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, South Korea.

Oceania (2)

Australia, New Zealand.

Americas (6)

Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Peru, Uruguay.

Mutual visa-exemption agreements: separate bilateral agreements cover ordinary passports from countries such as Singapore, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar (up to 30 days per visit; for Thailand, no more than 90 days in any 180-day period).

NOT on the 30-day list: the United States and India, among others; Czech and Lithuanian passports are not on it either. US, Czech and Lithuanian passport holders can use 240-hour visa-free transit, but only with a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region; if your route does not qualify, apply for a visa before you travel.

240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

In December 2024, China upgraded the former 72-hour and 144-hour transit policies into a single 240-hour (10-day) allowance, now covering ordinary passport holders from 57 countries (list dated 20 August 2026):

  • Europe (40), including all 27 EU countries: Albania, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom
  • Americas (6): Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, United States
  • Asia (9): Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam
  • Oceania (2): Australia, New Zealand

Under this scheme, you enter via approved transit ports, spend up to 10 days in specific regions of China, and depart to a third country or region. Flying back to the country you came from does not qualify.

Key Requirements

  • Ordinary passport with enough validity left — check the minimum in your government's travel advice and with your airline before you fly
  • Confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region, departing within 240 hours
  • Entry through one of 65 designated ports
  • Stay within the approved region

Hainan Island 30-Day Visa-Free

Hainan has its own 30-day visa-free policy with a separate country list. It applies only if you enter through a port in Hainan, and you must stay within Hainan Province. Check the current list and conditions with official sources before relying on it.

Special Entry Points

Macau and Hong Kong

Separate visa regimes. Most citizens need no visa for Hong Kong/Macau. Can be used as transit points into mainland China.

What Visa-Free Entry Permits

  • Tourist activities
  • Business meetings and commercial activities (short-term)
  • Family visits
  • Cultural and educational exchange

Visa-free entry does NOT permit long-term work, study programs, or journalism.

Medical trips: Citizens of some countries can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family visits, exchanges or transit. Medical treatment is not on that list, so check the right entry route for your passport with the Chinese embassy or consulate before you book.

Practical Application for Medical Tourism

Short checkup (5-7 days)

If your passport is on the 30-day list, use that scheme. If it is not (for example, a US passport), the 240-hour transit scheme can work, but only with a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region and within the permitted region.

Medium-length trip (8–30 days)

Citizens of some countries can visit China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family visits, exchanges or transit. Medical treatment is not on that list, so check the right entry route for your passport with the Chinese embassy or consulate before you book.

Longer treatment (30+ days)

Apply for a visa before you travel: the visa-free schemes above cover stays of up to 30 days. For treatment, the usual category is S2 (private affairs) — we confirm the right visa case by case before you book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get free visa china entry at the airport?

Yes — present passport at immigration, receive entry stamp, proceed. No pre-application needed.

What if I'm a dual citizen?

Travel on the passport of the country with best visa-free access.

Can I extend my visa-free stay?

Not automatically. You can apply to the local exit-entry administration before your permitted stay ends, but approval is not guaranteed. If your treatment may run past 30 days, apply for a visa before you travel (see Longer treatment above).

What about the 144-hour scheme — is it still valid?

No. On 17 December 2024 China extended the former 72-hour and 144-hour visa-free transit policies to 240 hours.
